Boats have been serviced and people cared for in Burkehaven by the Morgan and Gould families since 1914.
Warren F. Morgan started a boat business in Burkehaven about 1914, providing services to folks with cottages on the islands, summer residents along the shoreline, and visitors to the Burkehaven Hotel. He was the Burkehaven postmaster, ran a small store, made deliveries by boat, ferried visitors, and worked with the steamship company to help build a small community of people seeking a beautiful spot to spend a quiet summer on the lake. Warren F. and Ethyl Morgan also bought and ran a small ice cream store in Sunapee Harbor, Morgan's Store, known today as The Anchorage. Their daughter, Dororthy, took over the running of the Burkehaven store in 1955.
Dorothy and Leon Gould ran the Burkehaven businesses when Morgan settled in to retirement. Leon Gould expanded the boat business while Dorothy took over the postoffice and store. Their daughter, Lois Gould, came in to help when Leon died in 1985.
Lois and Rick Green, her son, took over the business in 2003, and joined with Chris McHugh to form an LLC in 2006. The business has expanded since then to two different shops in Sunapee to become the prime boat service center in the entire Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee Region.
